2025 is full of interesting and high-profile releases. We are expecting sequels of well-known franchises and many other interesting projects. We’ve collected the most interesting games that will be released this year.
Sniper Elite: Resistance (30 January)
At the end of January, Rebellion Developments will release a new part in the tactical shooter franchise Sniper Elite.
Unlike the previous series, it will feature a new protagonist, Harry Hawker. The character previously appeared in the cooperative multiplayer mode of Sniper Elite 3, 4 and 5 as a secondary character. The story of Sniper Elite: Resistance takes place in parallel with the events of Sniper Elite 5.
The new game will take place in occupied France during World War II. The player will have to prevent the Nazis from creating a new weapon that can help the Third Reich win the war.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (4 February)
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is the sequel of Kingdom Come: Deliverance from the Czech studio Warhorse. The game will have a text Ukrainian localisation and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is an open-world role-playing game set during the Civil War in 15th-century Bohemia. The protagonist Henry started serving the knight Radzig the Mare to take revenge on Marquart von Aulitz, who destroyed his home and killed his family. The developers promise that the game world will be twice as big as in the previous part.
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII (11 February)
Sid Meier’s Civilization VII from Firaxis Games is scheduled for release on February 11. The game will be available on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Developers will provide an opportunity to play as a certain leader without being tied to a nation. The cities in the game should change depending on which civilization controls them.
«In Civilization VII, your strategic decisions shape the unique cultural lineage of your evolving empire. Rule as one of many legendary leaders from throughout history and steer the course of your story by choosing a new civilization to represent your empire in each Age of human advancement», — this is how the developers describe the game.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii (20 February)
At the end of February, fans of the Like a Dragon series will get a new game, which is a pirate spin-off about Goro Majima in Hawaii. ‘Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza, now pirate captain & his crew. Engage in exhilarating combat on land and sea in the hunt for lost memories and treasure,’ the game’s description says.
The release will take place on 20 February on PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
Monster Hunter Wilds (28 February)
On 28 February, Capcom will release the sequel to Monster Hunter: World from 2018, subtitled Wilds. The game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. During the demonstration at Gamescom 2024, the project received the Most Epic, Most Exciting, Best PlayStation Game, and Best Trailer awards.
However, despite the great interest from players, the game still has some technical issues that the developers were informed about during beta testing. We hope they will manage to fix everything.
Split Fiction (6 March)
On 6 March, Split Fiction, a new game from It Takes Two creator Josef Fares and Hazelight, will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Split Fiction will follow the form of It Takes Two, but will tell the story of two writers who are caught in a simulation of their own stories. One of them writes about a fantasy world, and the other about a science fiction world, so they need to team up to survive.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows (20 March)
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will be released On March 20. It’s dedicated to feudal Japan during the Sengoku period. In the game, you will be able to take on the role of two characters at once – the female shinobi Naoe and the dark-skinned samurai Yasuke.
The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Analysts note that the success of Shadows will largely determine the future of Ubisoft, which is not in the best position.
The First Berserker: Khazan (27 March)
The First Berserker: Khazan will be one of the first soulslike games to be released in 2025. Game will take place in the same universe as Dungeon Fighter Online in 2005. In the story, the player transforms into Khazan, a majestic general of the Pel-Los Empire who has overcome death and is now going in search of the reasons for his downfall and ways to take revenge on his enemies.
Grand Theft Auto 6
The most anticipated release of 2025 is Grand Theft Auto 6. When the game was announced, it was stated that GTA 6 would be released in the third or fourth quarter of 2025. According to analysts, the game will bring in $3.2 billion in the first year.
However, fans have doubts that GTA VI will be released this year. At the moment, only one trailer has been released and there have been no other announcements from the developers. In his forecasts for 2025 for the gaming industry, Jason Schreier noted that he expects GTA 6 to be postponed to 2026, as Rockstar Games games are always postponed at least once.
Borderlands 4
The new game in the Borderlands series does not yet have an exact release date, but Gearbox Software has announced that it will be released this year. Currently, little is known about the game, only that it is a first-person shooter in which a bounty hunter must lead the resistance against a ruthless dictator. Announced platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Mafia: The Old Country
Hangar 13 studio announced the release of Mafia: The Old Country. It should be noted that the game will have a text Ukrainian localisation. The exact release date is currently unknown.
The game is a prequel to the first episode, and its events take place in Sicily in the 1900s, in the fictional town of San Celeste. The protagonist is Enzo Favara, who worked in the sulphur mines of Sicily but later became a member of the Torrisi crime family.
Doom: The Dark Ages
In June 2024, id Software announced the prequel to Doom (2016) — Doom: The Dark Ages. Currently, the game does not have an exact release date, but insiders reported that it could be released in the first half of 2025. The project will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
The developers have not yet disclosed much information about the game. However, on January 23, Xbox Developer Direct will be held, where the creators will present the project and announce the release date.
Elden Ring Nightreign
At The Game Awards 2024, From Software announced Elden Ring Nightreign, which is a spin-off for the main story and will have a co-op mode. It is currently unknown when the game will be released.
The game has a single-player mode, but it is designed for teams of three players. They have three days of play to prepare for the final boss.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
The sequel to Death Stranding, subtitled On the Beach, is expected in 2025. Developers from Kojima Productions promise that the game will be even stranger than the first one. But we shouldn’t exclude the possibility of the project being postponed, as in October 2024, Hideo Kojima said that the game was 30-40% complete.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be exclusive to PlayStation 5.
Ghost of Yotei
A sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, called Ghost of Yotei, is planned for 2025. It is known that the events will take place in 1603, and the main character will be a female warrior Atsu. The developers from Sucker Punch Productions promise that players will have more control over the plot and Atsu’s choices compared to the first part of the series.
Ghost of Yotei will be exclusive to PlayStation 5, but we can expect a port to PC later, as Sony has been doing it regularly lately.
